Abstract:
This paper is aimed at measuring the economic growth rate and effect of developmental intervention by Governmental and non-governmental organizations in bringing socio-economic changes among Dongriya Kondh community in Orissa .The tribals constitute almost 33% of the total population of Orissa. Yet the benefits of development are yet to penetrate in the tribal society of India. The Dongriya Kondhs are one of the oldest aborigines of the region and are of Austro- Mongoloid origin. They are settled in deep pockets of the western ghat forest extensions in Orissa. . The quality of life in this region is comparable to any poor African nation. These people are devoid of basic facilities of education, sanitation and health care. The population is largely dependent on the local resources i.e. forest and forest outputs for their survival.
